Alternative Firing Workshop - Mica Infused Horse Hair Pottery
About this Event
Flingin Pots is excited to share this low-firing process that is inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. In this workshop, each student will paint with various mica-infused terra sigillatas on 2 pre-made pots to be fired in the Raku kiln.
Next, we Fire up students pots to 1400° then remove. Once pulled, students will burn or "fossilize" Horse hair into the pot's surface creating beautiful hair lines and magical smoke. Horse hair is typically and traditionally used but feel free to bring any hairs from pets or humans.and add the hair, feathers, sugar, flour or honey. Lastly, clean up and TAKE POTS HOME!
That’s right! Raku is the only ceramic firing process that you take your pots home the same night after they cool for 15 mins 😎
