About this Event

This is an in-person event at our Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga.

This session focuses on exploring colonization and the bias it has created in the field of entrepreneurship.

The facilitators will explore diverse and non-mainstream approaches to entrepreneurship, including Black, Indigenous ones. Through this session, you will be able to gain varying perspectives on entrepreneurship.


Who Should Attend

This workshop is most beneficial to social entrepreneurs and changemakers.

Anyone who wants to decolonize entrepreneurship and gain diverse perspectives on entrepreneurship is welcome.

PepperBrooks

PepperBrooks is a creative marketing strategist and award-winning blogger - who blends empathy with business, art, and technology. Her vision is to reduce inequality and promote inclusion of all. As a social entrepreneur she believes that entrepreneurship is a tool for economic growth and social change.

Marisol Campos-Navarrete

With a 20-year career designing and coordinating projects and research related to social innovation across sectors, Marisol has developed successful strategies facilitating ways in which different disciplines and cultures can work together on initiatives oriented to community wellbeing and focused on economic growth. Her efforts have allowed her to design revenue generation strategies and social impact achievements for many kinds of organizations to explore and implement sustainability practices. Whether she is leading projects, monitoring performance, assessing impact, or providing tailored support to organizations and social entrepreneurs, she is grounded in Indigenous approaches and is focused on fostering cross-sector collaboration and intercultural dialogue oriented to promote innovating ideas and co-create solutions that truly address local communities’ needs.

Besma Soltan

Besma Soltan has 15 years of experience in the social and educational sectors, working with grassroots organizations, non-profits, startups, incubators, and higher education institutes. She co-founded a non-profit and a startup company focused on helping raise community awareness about local and global issues, with her work featured in several local TV shows, newspapers, and radio shows. Besma's areas of expertise intersect curriculum design, interdisciplinary innovation, and entrepreneurial education with award-winning programs that have engaged hundreds of students, changemakers and social entrepreneurs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Enterprise Management, a Graduate Certificate in Marketing Management, a Master's in Education and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Interdisciplinary Social Research, focusing on Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She recently joined Humber College as Project Manager at the Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship.
