Kickstarting AlterCOP 30 Australia with Australia’s Biggest Climate Education Event: The GIANT Climate FreskOn Day 1, thousands of Australians will come together for the largest Climate Fresk ever held in the country — a powerful, collective climate education experience happening simultaneously in cities and towns.
From Brisbane to Perth, Sydney to Melbourne, we’re inviting communities to take part in this one-of-a-kind, citizen-powered event. Because climate literacy isn’t optional — it’s the foundation of real climate action.
What is Climate Fresk?
Climate Fresk is an internationally acclaimed, science-based workshop that turns complex climate science into a fun, interactive game. Using 42 cards based on the latest IPCC reports, participants work in teams to map out the causes and consequences of climate change.
No lectures.
No jargon.
Just collaborative learning, rich conversations, and a boost of collective energy to act.

Climate science isn’t a mandatory prerequisite for politicians and decision-makers — but it should be.
At AlterCOP 30 Australia, we believe every meaningful climate conversation and decision must begin with a solid understanding of the science. Following the Climate Fresk workshop, we will have an emotional debriefing facilitated by Christie Wilson from Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC), a not‑for‑profit charity helping people and communities respond to the climate and nature crisis with strength and care.

Professionals and practitioners working across climate justice, just transition, climate action, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), social sustainability, social work, and broader sustainability fields — including those from industry, government, academia, and community sectors.
About AlterCOP
Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.
As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.
Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.
