Alterations and Mending 101
About this Event
Learn how to properly alter and mend clothing in this hands-on workshop.
Students will learn professional fitting techniques, how to hem, add patches, take in and let out seams, gussets, fix buttons, and more, through live demos and guided practice. The last part of class will allow students time to work on their own garments that need alterations and mending.
Bring 1–2 garments to alter and leave with practical skills you can apply to future projects and ready-to-wear clothing.
Suitable for beginner-intermediate sewists with basic sewing machine experience. Must know how to thread and use a sewing machine. Sewing machines will be provided if you do not bring your own.

- Basic hand sewing of buttons and hooks and eyes
- Adding patches
- Hemming and tapering seams
- Taking in/ letting out side seams
- Gussets for underarms and pants
- Waistband alterations
- Professional pressing and finishing techniques

- 1-2 items you want to fit and alter
- 1 yd scrap woven fabric for practice
- Matching thread for items
