Alteration and Fitting Help Open Sew
About this Event
Have a garment sitting in your closet that needs to be hemmed, taken in, repaired, or adjusted, but not quite sure how to fix it?
Bring it to the Alterations Help Open Sew and get hands-on guidance with our fit expert, Amanda, while you work.
This 3-hour open sew session is designed for sewists who have garments they want to alter or mend but need help figuring out what needs to be changed, how to approach it, or how to execute the alteration correctly.
Bring 2-4 of your own garments and work on the projects that are most useful to you. Amanda will be available throughout the session to help you assess fit and construction issues, determine the best alteration method, demonstrate techniques, and guide you through completing the work yourself. Bring the garment you've been avoiding. Let's finally fix it.
Suitable projects:
- Hemming pants, skirts, dresses, or sleeves
- Taking garments in or letting them out
- Waist and waistband adjustments
- Fixing a gaping waist
- Adjusting shoulders or straps
- Basic garment repairs and mending
- Other straightforward alterations you're unsure how to tackle
Suitable for beginner-intermediate sewists with basic sewing machine experience. Must know how to thread and use a sewing machine. Sewing machines will be provided if you do not bring your own.
