What better way to celebrate five years of Alta Journal’s California Book Club than with a celebration of John Freeman’s newly published collection of fifty essays inspired by his hosting of our club? Join Alta Journal and Litquake as we partner with City Lights Books and Heyday Books to share an interactive evening with Freeman and a few of his literary inspirations. Writer Rebecca Solnit will lead a conversation with Freeman about his new book, followed by a rapid-fire West Coast book quiz hosted by City Light’s Paul Yamazaki. We’ll be asking for audience suggestions, participation, and enthusiasm as we honor a milestone achievement for the club, as well as this exciting new title from its host. After half a decade of the CBC, now with over 50,000 registered members from all over the world, we look forward to welcoming you to the very first gathering of the California Book Club—in real life.
