The Alou String Quartet delves into the sound world of jazz, groove, and improvisation, weaving multifaceted elements into the texture of the classical string quartet formation – reminiscent of the Turtle Island String Quartet. The four musicians, who met during their music studies, bring a combination of musical interplay and personal connection to the stage. Their modern arrangements and original compositions reflect a versatility shaped by their individual life paths and shared enthusiasm for diverse musical styles. The quartet invites the audience to immerse themselves in a world full of rich harmonies, dynamic rhythms, and profound improvisations.

Frank Gratkowski - altosax, clarinets, ﬂutes
Kazuhisa Uchihashi - guitar, saxophone
"Our style is every style," Kazu said to Frank after a concert they played together. Their improvisations are full of surprises, unexpected twists and turns and cannot really be categorized stylistically. From the very ﬁrst moment, which took place around 2016, Frank and Kazu felt a strong musical connection. Since then, they have played together regularly in smaller and larger formations such as SKEIN, Achim Kaufmann's Trokaan Project and Frank Gratkowski's Entrainment. After a long tour in Japan in 2023, the two decided to continue their duo work more intensively. Another Japan tour followed in 2024 and a first Duo CD will be released just in time for the concert at Donau115.
