Your Topic and Speaker:

Allergies gone wild! The history and future of allergic diseases
Melbourne is often called the 'allergy capital of the world' and allergic diseases have become increasingly common over the last three decades. But why have they become so common? Why did our bodies evolve the capacity for such life-threatening immune responses, and what can be done about them? This talk will take us on a deep dive into the history and future of allergy research. It will unravel the remarkable story of how allergies develop, and what we can do to treat them.

Craig Mckenzie

Craig completed his PhD at Monash University, where he explored how what we eat can shape our immune system. He has also studied how the body learns to tolerate allergens during successful allergy treatments—research that shapes better therapies for people living with allergies. Craig now works at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, where he studies the mechanisms behind allergic reactions, aiming to improve treatments and reduce the impact of allergies on children and families.
