The Lenten service of Tenebrae will be held at St. Mary's Church on Spy Wednesday in Holy Week, an abridged, 45-minute version of the traditional service, the psalms and prayers adorned by sacred music sung by Crux Vocal Ensemble. Central to the collection plainchant and polyphony will be Allegri's 'Miserere Mei', a work originally composed in the 17th century for the exclusive use in the Sistine Chapel. Legend has it a young Mozart travelled to hear it performed and wrote it out from memory upon his return home.
A retiring collection will be taken.
