Hey Richmond and surrounding area!
We'll be at Gold Lion Community Cafe on Saturday, July 25, from 1-3pm, chit-chatting about all things death, ecology, and community. Well maybe not all things, but certainly natural burial and how it's a response to the call to question norms around death and dying. Stop by for a dosa and stay for hot tips on shrouding and perhaps a natural history lesson on necrobiomes. Ever wonder who decided six feet under was the magic number? Spoiler alert: it wasn't Mother Nature. Join us to dispel myths, discover something unexpected, and be a part of this riveting community conversation, over tea! For more information, read on below. We hope to see you there!

Join Panorama Natural Burial for a casual and invigorating conversation on death, ecology, and community. Natural burial is reframing the conversation on how our bodies are tended after death. Rather than relying on intensive methods involving toxic chemicals, pollutive processes, and an ethos of engineered permanence, natural burial centers ecological reciprocity, authenticity, and relationship.
In natural burial bodies are placed directly into the earth. There is no embalming fluid, no concrete vault, and no metal casket. Everything that goes into the ground is fully biodegradable. The deceased are often buried in a plain wooden casket, willow basket, or simple cotton or linen shroud. The earth is mounded over top and allowed to settle on its own time. Native plants are seeded to inhibit erosion and encourage ecosystem restoration. Natural burial grounds are most often situated within existing undeveloped spaces, allowing for burial and land to coexist.
As a practice, natural burial encourages individual expression, communion with nature, presence, interdependence, and a surrender to impermanence. In response to burial practices that interrupt and ignore natural cycles, natural burial seeks to work within them.
Panorama Natural Burial is a natural burial ground located on a family farm in Earlysville, VA, just north of Charlottesville. We hope you'll join our rad team in gathering at Gold Lion Community Cafe to help us bring this conversation to life. Whether you are death curious, planning ahead, navigating a recent loss, or just super into hanging out at cafes and chatting, we welcome the conversation. Til soon, we hope!
