'All Ready, Unmaking': A workshop by Andros Zins-Browne & American Artist

Join us on Tuesday 8 September for the workshop All Ready, Unmaking delivered by artist, dancer and choreographer Andros Zins-Browne, in collaboration with American Artist at Rose Choreographic School.
All Ready, Unmaking is a workshop where we reverse the habitual teleology of making things. Rather than a process resulting in a finished product, we submit finished projects – embodiments, structures, repertoires – to a process. This process is a rehearsal. This process is a dehearsal. A dehearsal, where we practice unmaking a world whose greatest trick is that it's seen and done it all.
In Pina issue #3, American Artist presents ‘Power Grid’, an immersive mapping of contemporary sociocultural experience along X-Y axes intersecting poverty, wealth, captivity and freedom. The grid lays bare a matrix of disparities inherent to life and its subjective positions: from ‘being in love’ to ‘political asylum seeking’, ‘recreational space travel’ and ‘bankruptcy’, to ‘university enrollment’, ‘driving fast’ and ‘heroic dose’.
Taking Artist's ‘Power Grid’ as its cue, the workshop will invite participants into a game where the grids that compose their own subjectivities are embodied, de- and re-composed. Using these as our score, we'll rehearse and dehearse choreographies to unmake these structures and the ways they choreograph us.
American proposes that their grid ‘should serve as a starting point to generate ways out of the matrix, rather than resemble a cage in which we must remain locked and exploited’. From concrete matters like income to subterranean forces like sadness, grids keep us in place within the mesh that is hyper-capitalist life. In All Ready, Unmaking we will gamify the grids that make us who we are – within a sociality gathered for three hours at Rose Choreographic School – using repetition, contingency, exposure and play, hoping to reclaim the ways hierarchies and fixed positions inform and misinform how we view ourselves and perceive value around us.
The workshop is free but registration is necessary. Dance, performance or choreographic background is not required, but we welcome participants with an artistic practice.

All Ready, Unmaking is a new iteration of Zins-Browne’s work Already Unmade (2016–ongoing), presented at the ICA, London; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; RAM, Shanghai; and Lafayette Anticipations, Paris.
Andros Zins-Browne (b.1981, New York) works at the intersection of performance and dance, extending choreographic notions into encounters with dancers, nondancers, singers, objects and texts. His work has been featured at the PERFORMA19 Biennial, on the Criterion Channel, the Aspen Art Museum, Triple Canopy, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. His performance ‘Remix’ series includes The Tony Cokes Remixes, 10th Berlin Biennale (2018), Dia Art Foundation (2023); Simone Forti’s See-Saw, MoMA, New York (2019) and Asymmetry 222, Getty Museum, Los Angeles; and Jérôme Bel, 1995 (2020) KADIST, Paris. With a host of co-conspirators, Zins-Browne created duel C (River-To-River Festival, 2023), Duel H (Danspaceproject, 2024), and sDuel (MDT, Stockholm, 2025) in a choreographies commingling violence and care. He has been a visiting professor of Performance at Giessen University, Harvard University, and taught workshops at Impulstanz Festival, Vienna, P.A.R.T.S, University of Chicago, The New School, and Goldsmiths University of London.
American Artist (b. 1989, New York) makes thought experiments about technology, race, and knowledge production, beginning with their legal name change in 2013. Their artwork primarily takes the form of sculpture, and video. Artist is a Guggenheim Fellow (2026) and a grant recipient of Creative Capital, Artadia, and Trellis Art Fund and is an alumni of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. They have held solo exhibitions at MIT List Center, Queens Museum, REDCAT and Pioneer Works. They have also participated in exhibitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland, and Nam June Paik Art Center, Seoul. Artist is in the permanent collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art among others. They are on the board of directors of the School for Poetic Computation and are a visiting critic at Yale School of Art.
Pina, founded in 2024, is a printed, portable exhibition space. It functions as a commissioning platform, collaborating with artists to create exhibitions existing solely within 60 pages of the magazine. Pina issue #3 presents exhibitions by American Artist and C.B. Evans, short stories by Lola Olufemi and Orion J Facey, and conversations between the artists and Che Gossett and Dean Spade, respectively.
Rose Choreographic School is an experimental research and pedagogy project, based at Sadler’s Wells East in Stratford. We propose a postdisciplinary approach to the question of the choreographic, and use an expanded notion of a school to frame our explorations.
