Ecstatic Dance is a free-form dance where music guides movement and expression. The emphasis is on letting go, moving freely, and connecting with your body and the music, rather than on specific choreography or skill level. Music is a mix of pop, club, house/EDM, trance, drumming, world music / new age -- whatever gives us a chance to move our body and explore different kinds of movement and expression.
You can dance as much or as little as you like! You may wish to stretch, observe, or rest during points in the dance journey. Take it at your own pace.
You do NOT have to be "good" at dancing to participate! You do have to be willing to follow the group agreements set in place by the facilitators at the beginning of the dance. Agreements include no drugs or alcohol and no conversation on the dance floor.
This is an all-ages event. Kids can dance, swing in hammocks, or play together.
Rough Schedule:
6-6:15 gather, introduce ourselves, go over agreements & answer questions,
6:15-6:30 Movement Workshop Exercises - warm up, loosen up, explore conscious movement with music
6:30-7:45pm Dance! We'll end with a short rest at the end
7:45-8pm- after a few minutes of silent reflection, we'll share a little about our experience, enjoy some snacks water, or tea, and say farewell.
This is a donation based event. Suggested donation is on a sliding scale, $10-$20.
