Featuring Jay Phelps (Trumpet)Internationally renowned harpist Alina Bzhezhinska has built a reputation for innovation. For this new project, she’s created a unique sound on the harp with effect pedals and electronics, supported by Mikele Montolli (bass) and Joel Prime (percussion) and featuring innovative trumpeter Jay Phelps.
Through a combination of original works and covers, she pays homage to some of jazz, funk and hip-hop’s greatest innovators. Her new quintet draws from a variety of influences, including the likes of Dorothy Ashby’s Afro-harping, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra, as well as 90s trip-hop and Kuti-esqe Afrobeat rhythms.
