Alice Fields Community Center Rent Party

Sunday was a success! A safe third space where folks could unwind, imagine, grieve, celebrate, and be with each other. That’s the mission of the Alice Fields Community Center—especially in these trying times, when it is of the utmost importance to have places of joy and respite when the bottom falls out.

And right now, we're in danger of having to close our doors.

We were collateral damage of an administration hellbent on rolling back the rights of certain demographics, and that showed up as attacks on the budgets of nonprofits and community groups doing The Work. We found ourselves with an unexpected budget deficit that left us in a precarious position for almost a year, on top of an unforeseen disruption to our power through no fault of our own.

As we stabilize, we are now left with the arduous task of clearing critical debts—like back rent for the center.

This space has been invaluable. We have fed people farm-to-table meals. We have provided folks with clothing and necessities through our Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom Boutique. We have hosted other community groups who needed space, including The Bronx Collab and Youth Ministries for Peace & Justice.

We have been an impetus for education, youth development, and mutual aid—providing paid internships for students from Fannie Lou Hamer High School.

While this moment feels scary, we're hopeful that we aren't losing this space. A space created by the will and desire of the women and children it serves.

We are confident in the power of our Beloved Community, so instead of approaching this from a place of lack and fear, we gonna do what Black folks do best… celebrate.

Rooted in joy and a bit of nostalgia, we're taking cues from our Ancestors who have been here before. ’Cause when the going gets tough, we get to partying.

The Black Feminist Project presents The Rent Party—a nod to the way Grandma and nem used to fill the gap.

On the day reserved for love, we are going to be anchored by community, support, and a damn good time.

Back in the day, we weren't worried—we used celebration as the impetus for manifestation, and we doin' it old school: spades, pitty-pat, fried chicken and potato salad, along with body-rocking music.

So this Valentine’s Day 2026, come love on the AFCC the way we’ve loved on y’all.

Be in fellowship, and leave a little money on the nightstand so The Girls can pay the bills, hunny.
