Join us for a special outdoor screening of Johan Grimonprez’s Soundtrack to a Coup d’État, a piercing examination of the political machinations that led to the 1961 assassination of Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba. Through rare archival footage and an incisive narrative, the film traces the global entanglements of Cold War power, imperialism, and resistance.

This screening honors the 100th anniversary of Patrice Lumumba’s birth, reflecting on his enduring legacy as the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first Prime Minister, who fought to end imperialist-backed violence and paid with his life only months into his leadership.

The evening will also feature the short film Why We Fly by Sajjad Musa, expanding the dialogue on liberation, struggle, and imagination across time and place.
