Alex's Photography Workshop at FABRIKA

At the NMDZ Fabrika Festival, we are hosting two workshops: Photography & Painting!
The Photography Workshop will be held by Alex Gross.
Alex Gross is a Minneapolis-based photographer interested primarily in street and candid portraiture. He is most commonly seen with his camera at local concerts and events, and is perhaps best known in the Twin Cities music community for his black and white work at these shows.
FABRIKA’s photography workshop will be an interactive, discussion-based overview of what makes a great photograph. To identify some qualities of compelling and provocative photography, we will be utilizing printed collections of over a dozen great photographers throughout history. We will discuss technical and artistic considerations for composition and subject matter, along with some examples of philosophy and ethics in photography that we can use as guidance in our own exploration of the art.
Please feel free to bring a camera if you would like to do so (smartphones count as cameras)! A couple of “toy” cameras with printing capabilities will be available during the workshop for communal use and fun, with the intention of creating a small mural of compositions made by all of us. If time/numbers permit, we may go on a short photo walk around the block! Feel free to also bring any work you would like to briefly share (and critique if you are willing) at the end of the discussion!
