Speaker Bio:
Dr. Michael Staron was born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, where he lived until 2009 with his parents and his younger sister. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Drew University and later moved down to Washington, D.C., to pursue his post graduate degree from the Catholic University of America. Michael taught at CUA’s FYE program for 4 years and received both his Masters and PhD in Philosophy, with a dissertation entitled “Constituent Ontologies and the Unity Problem: A Thomist Analysis,” focused on Saint Thomas Aquinas’ metaphysics in dialogue with contemporary metaphysics. Dr. Staron works as a full-time middle school and high school religion and philosophy teacher at St. Anselm’s Abbey School in D.C. and he frequently teaches introductory philosophy classes at CUA.
Mariane Staron was born and raised in Brazil. She moved to Massachusetts as a teenager and lived there for a few years, before ending up in NoVa and getting her B.A. in Global Affairs from George Mason University. She worked in government consulting, communications, and lobbying, before feeling the call to serve the Church full time. Currently, she works as the Director of the Youth and Young Adult Apostolates at the Basilica of Saint Mary, where she has been a parishioner since 2015, and has a Master of Arts in Catechetics and Evangelization from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Michael and Mariane were married at the Basilica of Saint Mary in March, 2019. They reside in Alexandria with their three children, and will be celebrating 10 years together this summer!

All young adults (21-35) are invited to Theology on Tap in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria at Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub, 2nd floor, every first Monday of the month. The talk begins at 7:30 pm & ends with Q&A at 8:15 pm. This event is cosponsored by The Basilica of Saint Mary and the Diocese of Arlington's Office of Youth, Campus, and Young Adult Ministries.
