About this Event
Celebrate Earth Month by learning about Alexandria's eco-transportation initiatives. Come learn about planned improvements to Eisenhower Avenue that will increase safety for all road users, fill an important sidewalk gap, and improve access to transit. Bike on one of the roads that will be modified as part of the Duke Street Transitway, a project that will transform how buses travel on the Duke Street corridor. Hear about how the Alexandria Fourth Track project will increase capacity and efficiency for trains and potentially improve the streetscape for pedestrians and cyclists near the King Street metro station. Celebrate the opening of the Potomac Yard metro station, which is already serving well over 1,000 passengers every day, and the northern extension of the Potomac Yard trail.
We'll meet in the parking lot of the Van Dorn Street metro station, by the Capital Bikeshare station. The route is about 12.5 miles, with a mix of trails and streets and some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49907853. If you'd like to join for just part of the ride, that's fine too. The ride will end at the Potomac Yard metro station, so bring your SmarTrip Card if you plan to take the metro back to the starting point.
Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. We'll be riding on some busier streets with traffic, so everyone will need to be able to control their bike.
If you've participated in BPAC's Earth Day rides in the past, many of the stops and info on this year's ride are new.
