About this Event
Join Alexandria Celebrates Women for ACW Salon, a monthly gathering of leading women thinkers and changemakers in an informal setting designed to spark conversation and collaboration.
The November Salon takes place on Friday, November 15 and will feature ALIVE! executive director Jenn Ayers and Mother Of Light Center founder Matilde Alvarado.
"These two extraordinary women work tirelessly serving our most vulnerable neighbors," said Alexandria Celebrates Women president Pat Miller. "Both of them started their roles in the months before COVID, and have fearlessly led their teams to serve others -- even as the pandemic and its after-effects dramatically increased the needs in our community."
Founded in 1969, ALIVE! is the oldest and largest private safety net in the City of Alexandria, serving thousands of individuals every month by providing food, transitional shelter, financial help, eviction prevention, and furniture & housewares. Mother of Light Center is an all-volunteer organization that delivers food to roughly 4,000 people a month; in addition to feeding those in need, they provide additional support for vulnerable families through a single mothers group, an after school program, fall backpack drive, winter coat drive and lunches that are prepared for distribution at migrant labor sites.
The event is free and open to all, and takes place at The Hub at Canal Center, located at 99 Canal Center in Old Town North. Networking begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In the spirit of the season, participants are encouraged to bring diapers, laundry detergent, feminine hygiene items, cooking oil, and lentils for ALIVE!.
Alexandria Celebrates Women (ACW) is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization with a two-fold purpose: to raise needed funds for the Alexandria Domestic Violence Safehouse and to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Alexandria, Virginia’s women of the past, present and future.
