Alexander Zahel Wine Tasting
About this Event
A long-time winemaker at the family business - a "wine garden" in Vienna, locally called a Heuriger - Alexander Zahel and his wife Hilary left in 2024, started a brand-new micro-négociant, and are broadening their horizons, working with old vines from organic and biodynamic growers around the country.
He is seemingly the first to bring the "Gemischter Satz" calling card of the Viennese wine gardens outside of the vineyards in the capital, making the famous white blend from the Retzer Land alllll the way north near the border with Czechia.
But he isn't just bringing Vienna to the rest of the country. He's meeting it all in the middle, sporting a classic Austrian wine lineup with a Riesling from Langenlois, a Sauvignon Blanc from Knapfenstein down south in Steiermark, and a Blaufränkisch from Göttlesbrunn, Carnuntum, a little ways SE of Vienna heading toward lake Neusiedler. In other words, wines from grapes in their traditional, most famed regions.
Come taste some of Austria's best, from one of Austria's most talented!
