Brand Associates, the support group for the Brand Library & Art Center promotes, music, dance and the visual arts. On August 3 they will host the 1963 musical Bye Bye Birdie from Columbia Pictures. The original Broadway production opened in 1960 and featured Dick Van Dyke, Chita Rivera and Paul Lynde. Janet Leigh and young sensation Ann-Margaret came on board for the feature film version.

The play was inspired by Elvis Presley’s induction into the army in 1957, although the lead character’s name (Conrad Birdie) was suggested by Conway Twitty, who at the time was positioned as a major rival to Elvis. Colorful and tuneful, with many songs that are instantly recognizable, Bye Bye Birdie (1963) sounds like the perfect ‘summer in the park’ movie.

Glendale’s Community Services and Parks will once again for provide their 17 x 10 foot LED projection screen. Image quality and stereo sound has never been better.
