Aleph Quintet draws on the musical traditions of North Africa, the language of contemporary jazz and the power of improvisation to develop a sound of their own. The Brussels-based quintet has established itself on the international jazz scene, performing across Europe and beyond, and earning accolades including ‘Révélation’ from Jazz Magazine and Best Belgian Jazz Album at Jazz à Liège. The quintet was also named best foreign group of the year by both Jazz News and Jazz Magazine.
On their new album Hiwar, dialogue takes centre stage: between cultures, heritage and innovation. The Arabic word “hiwâr” means “dialogue”, and that spirit runs through every note. Each member brings their own background to the table, shaping a collective sound that is rooted and resolutely contemporary. Hiwar received the highest honour from Jazz Magazine, a ‘Choc’, and was featured in Bandcamp’s ‘The Best Jazz on Bandcamp’.
