Astris PME invites you to our Albury Clinical Education Day! This event features two clinical education workshops and product demonstrations. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow therapists, expand your knowledge, and engage with our expert team.

You can join for the whole day or choose the session you would like to attend. Please select one ticket when registering.

MAT 101 Mini Workshop: Boosting Skills and Confidence

Knowing where to start to support someone with postural care needs can be challenging. Beginning with a sound assessment process and understanding how to interpret outcomes is always a good place to start. Furthermore, a successful postural assessment, whether for seating, standing or lying should include a MAT evaluation. As a biomechanical assessment tool, the MAT evaluates the specifics of the client's posture and gives insights into possible causes. This insight will serve to enable ideal interventions that promote health and well-being. This workshop will be focused on how to plan and carry out a MAT evaluation as well as focus on building confidence in getting hands-on and interpreting the outcomes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Understand posture and the forces acting on the body that impact posture.
• How to use the process of the MAT to assess posture through hands-on practice.
• Understand how to translate assessment outcomes into AT selection.
• Identify 3 other key areas of practice that will help develop practical skills and confidence in assessment and implementing interventions.

Afternoon Session: 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Beyond the drive wheel: Advancing possibilities of Power Wheelchair Prescription

When manual propulsion just isn't enough or when more is required from a seating system, prescribing a power wheelchair can meet the needs of a person and open many possibilities. But how do we look beyond the selection of the drive wheel position and motor capacity to optimise mobility and functional outcomes? This intermediate-level workshop will take a look at how a user's needs, component selection and programming features of power wheelchairs can achieve long-term outcomes including planning for alternative interface options.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Outline 5 Power Wheelchair feature selections that can optimise outcomes long-term.
• Identify features and the potential set-up and implications of these to match client goals.
• Develop a process to guide prescription that facilitates the right fit and avoids over-scripting.

SPECIAL GUEST PRESENTERS:

The workshops will be presented by Bianca Brady and Mellinda Clarke, Clinical Educators of APEX Mobility.

As an occupational therapist, Bianca began her career in physical rehabilitation where her passion for working with neurological conditions and physical challenges that impact daily life. Bianca has worked with NSW Health and as a community therapist in the private industry to support people with complex physical disability needs to achieve their goals. Currently, in a role focused on education, she remains an advocate for people who access care and support to achieve life goals as well as serving to provide opportunities to foster growth and learning for others.

Mellinda is an experienced Physiotherapist of 24+ years with a strong paediatric and disability focus throughout her career. Mellinda joined APEX Mobility in May 2023 as a Clinical Educator, focusing on education in the AT and disability sector where, through clinical education, she aims to continue to help people young and old, together with their families, achieve their goals and live their best life.
