Join us for the newly formed Albuquerque AI Safety Coffee Meetup!
You don't need to sign up. I will be at Slow Burn from 8:00 to 10:00 am, regardless of whether anyone else comes. No need to be shy. If you want to come and say hi, then leave after 10 minutes, that's totally okay. The point of these early meetups is to create an easy way to meet people who are concerned about existential risk from AI.
We are currently racing towards the creation of something smarter than any person alive. We have good reason to suspect that it won't share human values, and that it could greatly harm, or even end, human society.
This is a crucial moment. Ultra-capable Artificial Intelligence could be created within the next few years. We need to ensure that we are ready. AI must be developed responsibly, and sufficient guardrails must be put in place around its creation and deployment. The safest path would be to create an international treaty pausing or slowing down dangerous frontier R&D.
If you are concerned about existential risk from AI, or interested in discussing it, join me every other Saturday at 8.30 am at Slow Burn Coffee Roasters on Mountain road. It will be a very casual meetup, just to have a cup of coffee and discuss concerns, recent news, and pathways for change.
