About this Event
To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp A Butterfly", join us for an intimate album listening + discussion party. Widely considered to be one of the best albums of our generation, we’ll listen to each song in entirety and between songs discuss the many themes that Kendrick has layered in, from race and identity to mental health and more.
What to Expect:
The Children of Diaspora hosts events that bring people together over a shared appreciation of culture. For this event, come and get cozy (tea included with your ticket) as we listen to “To Pimp A Butterfly” together. We’ll discuss the significance of the album and different tracks, but also allow for space for others to share their own thoughts and experiences as well.
Price: $20 early-bird / $25 at the door
Schedule & Late Policy :
Come at 6:30 to get some tea, get settled in, and mingle. Doors close at 7:00pm, when we will start to play the album. Please arrive before 7, as we will not be able to let people in late once we begin*
Andrew Pang (a child of Chinese immigrants and Bay Area-native) and co-founder, Dennis “Conrad” Johnson (a child of Sierra-Leonian immigrants, and long-time resident of SF) have formed a collective called "The Children of Diaspora". Their mission is deeply rooted in bridging communities by celebrating, appreciating and creating a deeper understanding of others’ cultures, especially ones that aren’t highlighted in the mainstream. Together, as "The Children of Diaspora", they curate experiences that resonate with both the traditional and the modern.
