About this Event

Albion’s exciting and much-awaited first Buxton performance of 2024 celebrates the springing up of warm weather and big skies. The songs and words are both familiar and new, spanning folksongs, poetry, and meditations - music which brings people together and creates space for change, connection, and feeling better. All the music is written or reimagined in atmospheric, contemporary colours by composer Fraser Wilson and the whole group.

"The diction, intonation and ensemble is impeccable, and their dynamic range is magical - I have seldom heard quiet singing quite like it - barely audible but with an intensity of line and sound that is truly wonderful. They have the ability to work the venue’s acoustics like no other group I know, and their obvious enjoyment of everything they perform is palpable and mesmeric" (Andrew Hodkinson, Review, Buxton Fringe Festival)

You are invited to come and be immersed in the transformative experience that is the uplifting sound of Albion Choir - evocative, colourful choral singing which might just change your perspective.

Engagingly presented and introduced as we go along, the performance presents a musical voyage of discovery which weaves together
--- Fresh new arrangements of timeless folksongs including "Greensleeves" and "The water is wide"
--- New versions of classic songs such as "What a Wonderful World" and much-loved words such as WB Yeats’ "He wishes for the cloths of heaven"
--- Reflective, meditative pieces that create a sense of peace including "There Is Only Us" and our newly created "Invocation II".

We can list as many songs as we like, but actually the best way to appreciate it is to come and have the ALBION experience yourself. All our concerts now are PAY WHAT YOU WANT and so it is more possible than ever to come and have the experience in whatever way moves you most.

Enjoying music together is good for our mental health and wellbeing. Comprising singers from far and wide who have all been deeply moved by music in one way or another, Albion is a choir on a mission to share joy in singing together and aiming to make you feel better. On the surface, it’s simply a choir concert in a church, but it’s a feel-good occasion which just might offer you a new perspective.

Note that we are starting this concert at 3pm so that young and old people alike can join us! See TICKET DETAILS for more information. There will be light refreshments during the interval. Concert duration approx 2hrs including an interval.
