(New York, NY - May 18, 2023) ALBA Musik, the dynamic duo consisting of powerhouse vocalist Bárbara Martínez and talented guitarist Albert Alabedra, announce the upcoming release of their debut album, DAWN, on June 18, 2023.
This album is an explosive blend of Flamenco and Latin music, fused with Latin Pop, funk, blues, salsa and world music, showcasing their unparalleled eclectic musical style. Written during the pandemic, ALBA Musik's aim was to bring some much-needed light and unity after two years of darkness and separation. DAWN features personal stories woven with universal themes of family, prayer, rediscovering joy, and finding happiness and beauty in sunflowers and animals.
With 10 years of performing together in New York City, Martínez and Alabedra are no strangers to captivating audiences. Their musical synergy took things to the next level in May of 2022, when they decided to collaborate and write songs together. Alabedra recorded his guitar ideas, while Martínez crafted unforgettable melodies and lyrics in Spanish. Together, they started performing their newly written songs in various venues for Flamenco enthusiasts, and ALBA Musik was born.
As time went on, their band blossomed and transformed, as Martínez and Alabedra welcomed some of the most celebrated and revered musicians to collaborate with them. Together on stage, they explored the diverse roots of flamenco, drawing on Iberian, Andalusian, Roma, Jewish, and Arab music, as well as the rhythmic traditions of the African Diaspora.
Alabedra himself has described their live performances as a "mystical experience," where an amalgamation of cultures converges into a singular, magical moment. “This,” he explains, “is the essence of what ALBA stands for - uniting a community of music enthusiasts and artists who share a profound love and respect for the music.”
With this communal ethos in mind, they invited a group of artists to participate in their debut album recording, including the inimitable Rolling Stones saxophonist Tim Ries, Ketama's Joselin Vargas, Ketama/Pata Negra/Rosario producer Arturo Soriano, the virtuosic kora player Yacouba Sissoko, talking drum player Baba Musa, and the two-time Grammy-nominated pianist Gonzalo Grau. The album's production and mixing was expertly handled by the versatile NYC multi-instrumentalist and composer Bob DiGiacomo, who elevated it to new heights. And to add a final touch of brilliance, the mastering was overseen by Robert Honablue, a legendary figure who has worked with luminaries such as Miles Davis, Santana, Tina Turner, Barbara Streisand, and Aretha Franklin.
Martínez couldn't contain her excitement for the upcoming release, saying "We felt very good about the songs. We felt we were doing something inherently good for our audience and the other artists with us."
Get ready for a musical adventure with the dream team of Flamenco Fusion! ALBA Musik is releasing their first album on June 18, 2023. The album is called "DAWN" and the full band will be celebrating with an all-out album release concert at Drom NYC (85 Ave A.)
