Guitar Concert in Santa Cruz: ‘Guitarra en Fisterra’ presents Alan Mearns
South Bay Guitar Society, with support from Hill Guitar Company, invites you to a special evening concert by classical guitarist Alan Mearns. Performing live at the UCSC Seymour Marine Discovery Center’s La Feliz Room, the dynamic virtuoso will captivate the audience with a stirring program that crosses genres with remarkable artistry, delivering all but the expected.
Irish guitarist-composer Alan Mearns is internationally recognized for performances that combine technical brilliance with striking musical imagination and expressive depth. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mearns has earned acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic for interpretations that are deeply personal, architecturally refined, and emotionally compelling. Following his acclaimed Guitar Foundation of America performance of the Bach Chaconne, Soundboard Magazine described it as “amongst the greatest performances of the work I’ve ever heard.”
Mearns’ celebrated recording J.S. Bach, Sei Solo debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Classical Music Charts and drew praise from leading artists and scholars including Sergio Assad, David Leisner, and faculty from Juilliard and Oberlin. In addition to his work as a performer and arranger, Mearns is also an accomplished composer whose recent projects continue to expand the expressive possibilities of the classical guitar with artistry rooted in both tradition and individuality.
