Join us for an in-person event with Alan Clements, the author of A Meditator's Refuge and co-author, with Fergus Harlow, of The Voice of Hope: Aung San Suu Kyi from Prison.
Event Highlights:
A Meditator's Refuge is a comprehensive guide to meditation and mindfulness, designed for serious meditators and yogis who value the power and sanctity of intensive Vipassana meditation, especially in silent retreat environments. This book offers guidance for all stages of practice, whether it be a week, ten days, three months, or a year of silent meditation.
The Voice of Hope: Aung San Suu Kyi from Prison, co-authored with Fergus Harlow, offers profound insight into Aung San Suu Kyi's thoughts and experiences from her release in 2010 to her recent imprisonment in 2021, challenging the narrative of her silence during the Rohingya crisis.
The event will shed light on significant nonviolent struggles and the ongoing crisis in Burma.
This event will also be the international launch of the UseYourFreedom.org campaign, which aims to mobilize global support to free Aung San Suu Kyi and all other political prisoners in Myanmar. The campaign encourages people worldwide to use their freedom of speech and expression to demand the release of these imprisoned leaders and to pressure the junta to end its oppressive regime.

About Alan Clements:
Alan Clements is an author, satirical-comedic spoken word performer, human rights activist, and one of the first Westerners to be ordained as a Buddhist monk in Myanmar, where he trained in Satipatthana Vipassana meditation under Mahasi Sayadaw and Sayadaw U Pandita. After being forced to leave Myanmar in 1984, he returned to the West and became a prominent speaker and author on mindfulness, human rights, and nonviolent revolution. He is the author of several books, including A Meditator's Refuge and Instinct for Freedom. Clements founded World Dharma, focusing on global human rights and personal transformation.
Praise for Alan Clements' Work:
“This book is the music of wisdom, a dance with the finest places of the human heart... a timeless treasure.”
—Joanna Macy, on A Future to Believe In
"Alan always lights up a room and he's a freedom-teacher with a longtime Buddhist meditation practice -- and teaching. He is a character, and he's one of few people that continue to bring our attention to the tragic situation in Burma, the land of his Buddhist teachers. He offers a real-time standup dharma-comedy-tragedy philosophical transmission."
—Kolin Lymworth, Founder of Banyen Books and Sound, Vancouver, BC, Canada
"This book by Alan Clements inspires people, young and old."
—The Dalai Lama, on Tonight I Met A Deva, An Angel of Love
