Join us as we welcome Alan Ashworth to the Oracle Underground stage on Friday, August 9th at 7pm. Alan is a member of the popular group The Central Pickers. Join us for some solo performances from this talented musician as well as some surprise guests that will be sure to make this musical evening a blast.Alan Ashworth was born and grew up in Welch, WV, the heart of the nation’s coalbin. Coal boomed in those years, the economy was healthy and he took advantage of what opportunities he had. He studied violin for three years but when The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, he put down his violin and took up the guitar. Music became his great love—that, and hiking the woods behind his house. Later, he discovered Bob Dylan and learned from him the power of words. He graduated from West Virginia University with a major in English and a minor in History. After that, he bounced around some, more or less at loose ends until, in 1986, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ and his life came into focus. Today, he is a pastor serving in retirement in Bland County, VA, where he lives with his wife, Mary. They have three grown children and even more grandchildren. As for music, that lifelong pursuit continues as he is a proud member of the world renowned “Central Pickers.” Truly, Fortune has smiled upon him.
