One of the dumbest prejudices perpetuated by the world is that menstrual cycles turn women into monsters. That conceit is what makes GINGER SNAPS so incredible. The Fitzgerald sisters are death-obsessed high school goths who create ultra-violent art projects while battling the popular kids. But everything changes when someone’s period -- and a werewolf -- enters the picture. Combining the revisionist energy of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, the body-horror of SHIVERS, and the black humor of HAROLD AND MAUDE, GINGER SNAPS is unpredictable and unbelievably fun. It’s also a takedown of gender bias in the form of a werewolf movie.
