After receiving universal acclaim for POOR THINGS and THE FAVOURITE, Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone have teamed up again for an audacious triptych fable. KINDS OF KINDNESS is at turns hilarious, insightful, nail-bitingly tense, and haunting, with an outrageously great cast featuring Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Hong Chau, Margaret Qualley, and Mamoudou Athie all playing multiple roles.
Co-written by frequent Lanthimos collaborator Efthimis Filippou, this definitely falls on the more surreal DOGTOOTH/THE LOBSTER side of the Yorgos scale. Touching on subjects as universal as free will and as specific as the proper pairing for a sautéed finger, KINDS OF KINDNESS is another subversive delight from the mordant Greek auteur.
THE DEATH OF R.M.F.
Robert (Plemons) has the perfect life thanks to his boss, Raymond (Dafoe), who controls every aspect of his daily routine. Things quickly fall apart when he refuses to perform a simple task, sending him spiraling into uncertainty.
R.M.F. IS FLYING
After months missing at sea, Daniel’s (Plemons) wife, Liz (Stone), is rescued and finds her way back home. Things might not be quite as they seem though, as Daniel suspects his wife may actually be an imposter, forcing Liz to go to drastic measures to prove her love.
R.M.F. EATS A SANDWICH
Cult members Emily (Stone) and Andrew (Plemons) are tasked with finding a messiah gifted with the ability to heal the wounded and resurrect the dead. While on the trail of a promising candidate, remnants from Emily’s old life threaten her relationship with the cult leaders, Omi (Dafoe) and Aka (Chau).
