The ALA Midwinter Meeting, hosted at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, is recognized as the world's largest library event. This gathering attracts a diverse array of participants including librarians, library staff, educators, authors, publishers, and friends of libraries. The event also features trustees, special guests, and exhibitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere for networking and professional development.
One notable aspect of the ALA Midwinter Meeting is the Hoy Scholarship, an annual award that provides $5,000 to a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is pursuing a Master of Library Science (MLS) in an ALA-accredited program. The ALA Exhibits Team, represented by Hall-Erickson, Inc., serves as the official exhibit and sponsorship sales representative for the conference. Attendees are advised to be cautious of companies that claim to offer sales opportunities related to the ALA Midwinter Meeting, as they may not be affiliated with the American Library Association. Only official service providers will be clearly identified in the Exhibitor Manual, ensuring that attendees can trust the resources available during the event.
The event also highlights the importance of communication and registration for exhibitors. Companies interested in exhibiting can access list rental and broadcast email services through the Exhibitor Registration site. However, it is crucial for exhibitors to disregard any solicitations from third-party suppliers that offer directory listings, as these entities are not endorsed by the American Library Association or its official partners. Housing for the ALA Midwinter Meeting is exclusively managed by onPeak, the official housing partner, and participants are encouraged to make their reservations through this service to avoid issues with accommodations. This comprehensive approach ensures that the ALA Midwinter Meeting remains a premier destination for library professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and connect with peers.
