AL SPX:
Al Spx is Ladan Hussein who used to go by Cold Specks. As Cold Specks, she released three critically acclaimed albums with Mute records and Arts and Crafts. In 2018, a forced break was taken after her first episode of psychosis where she was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. Ladan is in fact bipolar and as a result of an incorrect initial treatment plan she suffered a second episode of psychosis and was officially diagnosed with bipolar type 1. Her new, unreleased album ‘Light for the Midnight that is Mine’ is a document of those years spent battling severe mental illness. It isn’t a morbid affair however and is triumphant sounding. The sound of an artist who has truly lived. The album will be released towards the end of 2022 with Mute Records and is being produced by Adrian Utley of Portishead and Ali Chant.
