About this Event

What would a polar bear say if he could rap? What about an Ancestor that traveled so far from the past that it became the future again? Join Iñupiaq artist Allison Akootchook Warden as she raps as AKU-MATU, over beats that are unique as they contain samples of traditional Iñupiaq songs.

Warden is a recipient of a 2022 Rasmuson Individual Artist Fellowship in Music, and a recipient of a 2018 Native Arts and Cultures Foundation National Fellowship in Music. Warden started rapping in Juneau in 1994 and continues to push the genre forward today. She has performed at the Riddu Riddu festival in Norway twice, once as part of a Circumpolar Hip Hop collaboration led by beatmaker and artist, Aqqalu. She has also performed for over a thousand people in Paris as well as Helsinki, Stockholm, New York and also throughout Alaska. She looks forward to bringing forth new material for her performance at Out North.
