We’re back on stage — and it’s time to fill the house! After more than a year without a fully staged production, Encore Theatre and Gallery is proud to kick off our new season with Akeelah and the Bee by Cheryl L. West, October 2–4, 2025 at the historic Carver Theatre.
This inspiring and heartwarming play, based on the beloved film, follows Akeelah, a young girl from Chicago with a love for words and the courage to chase her dreams all the way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. It’s a story about determination, community, and believing in yourself, perfect for audiences ages 9 to 99.
