Deeply rooted in the new currents and rhythms of the African diaspora, Akabanga challenges the boundaries of modern beat music. With their enduring curiosity and burning desire to create pure ecstasy, Akabanga draws inspiration from various street parties around the world.
Akabanga consists of Jakob De Place (Total Hip Replacement, AySay, Jeremy Troy) Justo Gambula (Athletic Progression, Klumben & Raske Penge) and Mikas Bøgh (Faratuben), and if you have been in the audience at the trio's concerts at either A-Huset or Det Turkise Telt at the last two editions of SPOT, those concerts might have ended up being your absolute highlights of the festival.

The band has only released one official single so far and are hard at work on their debut album, which they expect to release in 2024. But you don't neccessarily need to know the music to get swept up in Akabanga's musical universe, because whether it's baila funk, gqom or balani, they blend it all together into their own unique and original club music that makes for rare and insanely energetic live performances.
This spring, the party is coming to you - at least if you're at Loppen - so surrender to the euphoria when Akabanga hits the Freetown on Friday 15 March!
DJ: JOLIE
Based in Copenhagen, born in Aarhus and of Tanzanian descent, Jolie explores sounds from Africa and the African diaspora. From beats with Highlife samples to Gqom, Kuduro and beyond, she aspires to bring you unique selections, old and new that are not necessarily found on the top music charts. She is an upcoming DJ, but not new to music spreading heaps of knowledge, range and soul.
