AJJ
——
Since forming in 2004, AJJ have built a devoted following by pairing folk-punk urgency with dark humor, existential lyricism, and an unlikely sense of hope. Led by Sean Bonnette and Ben Gallaty alongside Preston Bryant, Mark Glick, and Kevin Higuchi, the band has long explored apocalyptic themes that feel increasingly relevant. Their eighth album, Disposable Everything—their first for Hopeless Records—finds AJJ confronting both personal grief and societal collapse, inspired in part by the death of Bonnette's mother. Rather than dwelling in despair, the record explores what comes after loss, balancing bleak realities with resilience, compassion, and the possibility of moving forward.
Recorded as a full five-piece with producer David Jerkovich, Disposable Everything captures the band's collaborative spirit while embracing their signature blend of punk, folk, and offbeat experimentation. Songs tackle environmental destruction, late capitalism, mortality, and love with equal parts biting wit and surprising warmth, reflecting the band's ability to make difficult subjects feel strangely uplifting. Nearly two decades into their career, AJJ remain defined by their energetic live shows and fiercely loyal community, continuing to prove that even in a broken world, humor, connection, and love can still offer hope.
GREET DEATH
——
Since forming in Michigan in 2011, Greet Death have carved out a singular space where towering shoegaze, slow-burning heaviness, and deeply human songwriting collide. Childhood friends Logan Gaval and Harper Boyhtari write separately but together explore life's biggest questions, balancing existential dread with vivid snapshots of everyday life. Their acclaimed debut Dixieland and its follow-up New Hell established the band as one of heavy music's most emotionally resonant voices, earning a devoted following for songs that are as crushing as they are compassionate.
Their third album, Die In Love, expands that vision, transforming themes of mortality, grief, and love into cathartic, communal anthems. Recorded in the Michigan basement where the band first learned to play together, the album finds Greet Death embracing warmth and connection alongside their signature melancholy. Blending massive, melodic soundscapes with intimate storytelling, Die In Love reminds us that while loss is inevitable, the moments we share—the ordinary, joyful, and fleeting—are what make life worth celebrating.
