Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!

Sometimes we just gotta laugh. And what better way to do that then with the incredible 1-2-3 1980's punch of Zucker/Abrams genius comedies.

In many ways the heirs of the Marx Brothers' brand of visual, verbal, anarchic humor, Zucker/Abrams burst onto the scene in 1980 with our first feature, Airplane!, which itself was a spoof of the 1970's Airport series that constantly found celebrities up in airplane disasters.

Fascinatingly, Airplane! is so hilarious, you don't need any knowledge of the movies being spoofed, to recognize it immediately as one of the greatest American comedies of all time. Filled with an unbelievable jokes per minute ratio(often as high as 3-4 laugh out jokes in 60 seconds if you're really paying attention), Airplane! introduced Leslie Nielsen (we'll meet him again) as a comic master and found ways to make rock jawed 1950's matinee idols Lloyd Bridges and Robert Stack, among others, also surprisingly hilarious.

We follow Airplane! with the Zucker/Abrams next collaboration, the equally hilarious and criminally underseen Top Secret! from 1984 starring Val Kilmer as Nick Rivers, a kind of Elvis Presley singer who goes behind East German enemy lines during the Cold War and gets embroiled in a bunch of hilarious spy sh@t! Top Secret! is the insider's Abrams/Zucker collaboration of choice. It's filled with boundary pushing jokes and bravura bits of visual comedy (including a mind blowing underwater saloon fight!?!). Val Kilmer is genuinely hilarious and the whole movie is a blast.

We wrap up our triple with 1988's The Naked Gun which firmly established Leslie Nielsen as the go-to leading man for outrageous smart-stupid comedies for the next 20 years. Nielsen plays humorless LAPD detective Frank Drebin hot on a case but essentially making life miserable for everyone he comes into contact with including his partner O.J. Simpson (!!) and gorgeous mysterious femme fatalle Priscilla Presley.

Naked Gun is almost certainly the best of all the "spoof-stupid-smart" comedies after Airplane! filled with surprisingly biting jokes and great bits of visual humor.

So join us for a one-two-three punch of laughter!

Best always,

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS

REFUNDS:

We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.

However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: [email protected] and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.

WHY ARE THE TICKET PRICES HIGHER THAN NORMAL?

In order for us to re-open, maintain health protocols , and screen movies on 35MM, we need to temporarily raise our ticket prices. We apologize.

However, if you could look at this as partially helping the Secret Movie Club Theater re-open, make the improvements as we go to turn this into the amazing movie watching, movie making center we know it can be, we would be eternally grateful.

We should be able to lower our ticket prices soon as we are able to increase capacity and lower restrictions.

If you could look at this as all of us being in this together, we WILL remember your kindness.

HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:

We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.

We will have a staff member on duty to monitor all cars parked in the street-art alleyway at our entrance.

There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.

HOW WILL OUR STAFF MAKE SURE THE THEATER IS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE:

We will have staff in the theater at all times who make sure everyone is wearing masks and obeying protocols. We will have signage at entrance, markings at concessions, restrooms, etc so folks keep 6 ft distance at all times.

Anyone not observing safe protocols will kindly be asked to leave. On top of this, we’ll be making announcements at the head of each screening to make sure everyone understands the rules & regs!
