AINDA - show in the Amstelkerk

Some rooms do half the work. The Amstelkerk is one of them — a white wooden church built in 1668 on the Amstelveld, whose acoustics musicians travel to play in. For one night we're filling it with two voices from Buenos Aires.

Ainda are Esmeralda Escalante and Yago Escrivá, a duo who have been writing together for over ten years. Their songs are unhurried and close to the mic: harmonies that move as one, guitars kept low and warm, lyrics in Spanish about love, distance and the ordinary work of being close to someone. You don't need the language to follow them — in a room like this, the harmonies do the telling.

Never heard of them? That's the point. Come for the church, leave with a band.
