Full day trip by powerboat to the abandoned island of Ailsa Craig!We sail from Bangor Marina around 9am and head out past the Gobbins cliff path - a rare chance to view this Victorian gem from the sea - and across the North Channel to what has been described as ‘Scotland’s Galapagos’!
As we approach this imposing, prehistoric wonder in the ancient kingdom of Dál Riata, you will feel like you are entering Jurassic Park!
After marvelling at the spectacular seabird cliffs that host 70,000+ gannets during the breeding season from March to September, we will moor our vessel at the historic jetty on the far side of the island.
From there, we have three hours to investigate this mysterious volcanic plug!
We will offer a guided tour to the iconic lighthouse, dating from 1886, and around the numerous derelict buildings, foghorns and railway line from when Ailsa Craig was the world centre for mining granite for curling stones, as well as at one time a gasworks.
Or perhaps you will challenge yourself to climb to the 340m summit, checking out the ruins of Ailsa Castle and searching for the hidden Garry Loch along the way.
Or if that sounds too much like hard work, you are free to just chill on the shore with a drink, watching the many birds and seals.
Maybe you'll even glimpse a whale, dolphin or basking shark as they pass by!
Another option is to join the marine wildlife in their natural environment for a spot of wild swimming!
We will meet back at the boat for hot drinks and snacks, before leaving the Firth of Clyde and returning to Bangor for approx 6pm.

Bring sturdy shoes, waterproofs, water and a packed lunch.
PLEASE NOTE: no toilet facilities on the boat or on Ailsa Craig.
