About this Event
You will not want to miss our MAY IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL General Membership Meeting and Luncheon! 05/13/2026
Location: Jungle Island and Virtual (ZOOM)
Topic: SCOTUS, AILA's legislative agenda & AI in your practice.
On behalf of the Luncheons Committee, we invite you to our MAY Luncheon.
Join us in welcoming the 2026–2027 AILA South Florida Board!
This May luncheon is a special one — it's our Annual Report and the official introduction of the new AILA South Florida Board. We strongly encourage you to attend in person. This is your chance to meet the incoming Board members face-to-face, share your ideas, and help shape the direction of our chapter for the term ahead. The new Board wants to hear from you, your priorities, your concerns, and what you want from your chapter in the year to come.
We'll also celebrate the next generation of voices for immigration through the AIC Creative Writing Committee Awards, recognizing the 5th-grade winners of the Lee Chamberlin Memorial Award Creative Writing Contest.
Then, stay for what may be one of the most timely panels we've hosted all year — three powerhouse speakers, three urgent topics, one room. This is not a panel you can afford to miss. The Supreme Court is deciding whether TPS terminations and asylum shutdowns will stand. Congress is debating the future of immigration enforcement heading into the November elections. And AI is reshaping legal practice faster than the ethics rules can keep up. Ira Kurzban, Gregory Chen, and Jeffrey A. Devore are bringing the analysis, the strategy, and the practical guidance you need .
You will not want to miss it!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
🎤 FEATURED PANEL: What Every Immigration Lawyer Must Know in 2026: SCOTUS, Congress & AI
Ira Kurzban — Inside the Supreme Court's Immigration Docket The most consequential immigration cases of our generation are moving through the Court right now. Ira will break down what's at stake:
- TPS Terminations (Haiti & Syria): Can the executive branch end TPS for hundreds of thousands without judicial review?
- Asylum at the Border (Noem/Mullins v. Al Otro Lado and Raices v. Noem): Are turnback policies and asylum shutdowns legal?
- No-Bond Detention: Lower courts have pushed back — will SCOTUS weigh in?
- ICE Enforcement & Reasonable Suspicion: What recent emergency rulings tell us about where the Court is headed.
Gregory Chen — AILA's Legislative Agenda & the Road to November 2026 With the midterms looming and ICE/CBP abuses dominating the headlines, Greg brings the view from D.C.:
- Where AILA is fighting: Protecting legal immigration pathways and defending asylum from legislative dismantling.
- Shaping the narrative: Pushing candidates away from enforcement-only rhetoric and toward humane, workable policy.
- Accountability on the Hill: AILA's push for Congressional oversight hearings and independent review of CBP and ICE.
- What members can do now to influence the policy agenda heading into the election.
Jeffrey A. Devore — AI in Law Practice: The Tools, the Rules & the Risks AI is reshaping immigration practice, but the ethical guardrails are still being built. Jeff delivers practical, real-world guidance:
- The ethical line: Confidentiality, accuracy, and what data you should never feed an AI tool.
- Court orders on AI use in briefing and filings — and how to comply.
- What's actually working: AI features in Westlaw and other platforms worth integrating into your workflow.
- Client disclosure & firm policies every practitioner needs in place right now.
