About this Event
Architects are increasingly stepping beyond their traditional role to become developers—taking on greater influence over project vision, decision-making, and long-term impact. This panel explores what it means to lead projects from both the design and development side, and how this expanded role is reshaping practice and opportunity within the profession.
Moderated by AIA Arizona President-elect Dan Maher, AIA, Regional Executive at Kitchell, the panel will include:
- Aaron Bass, AIA, Principal Architect at Stance Architecture
- Jason Boyer, FAIA, President/Founder at Boyer Vertical
- Rick McLain, AIA, Architect/Partner at Repp + McLain Design and Construction
This conversation will bring together architects who have pursued development as part of their practice. Panelists will share candid insights on navigating risk, financing, partnerships, and the realities of taking ownership in the development process. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards of this path, along with practical perspectives on how architects can broaden their influence and create more impactful work in the built environment.
Attendees will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a copy of Architect & Developer: A Guide to Self-Initiating Projects by James Petty, AIA.
