AI Translation Tools: What Every Neighborhood Leader Should Know
About this Event
Join us on Aug. 25 from 6:30-8pm to discuss how neighborhood and homeowners association leaders are increasingly using free translation platforms such as Google Translate and AI-powered tools to communicate with residents who speak different languages. While these technologies can improve accessibility and help bridge communication gaps, they also have limitations that can lead to misunderstandings when used without proper context.
This workshop provides an honest and practical discussion on the benefits, risks, and best practices of using AI and translation platforms in community engagement. Rather than discouraging the use of these tools, participants will learn how to use them responsibly, recognize their limitations, and understand when professional interpretation or translation services are necessary.
Participants will also hear directly from the City of Charlotte's Code Enforcement team about how Language Line is used in the field, when interpreters are engaged, and lessons learned while serving Charlotte's diverse communities. This real-world perspective will help neighborhood leaders make more informed decisions when communicating with multilingual residents.
