AI Tools Foundations for WA Professionals
About this Event
The real question is not whether AI matters. It is knowing which tools to use, when to use them, and how to use them responsibly in your work.
With new AI tools appearing constantly, it can be difficult to know where to start or which tool is right for a particular task. This practical AI training for professionals is designed to build confidence across multiple AI tools without overwhelming you with technical detail or hype.
You will work through practical examples and structured activities to compare tools, choose the right approach for different tasks, check AI outputs, and identify safe ways to integrate AI into your everyday work.
The session is designed to be practical enough to apply immediately, while giving you a clear framework you can also share with your team.
Who this is for
This session is designed for professionals who want practical confidence using AI across their work:
- Professionals and AI-curious workers
- Small and medium business teams
- Educators and trainers
- Public-sector and local government staff
- NFP and community organisations
- Team members looking to build practical AI capability
No advanced technical background is required.
What we will do together
- Explore practical AI tools: Work through low-risk activities using different AI tools and understand where each can be useful.
- Choose the right tool for the task: Learn how to compare tools based on the task, context, output, and practical requirements rather than simply choosing the most popular option.
- Make better AI decisions: Apply a simple framework to decide when AI is appropriate, when human judgement is required, and when a different approach is better.
- Check AI outputs: Practise reviewing information for accuracy, relevance, quality, and potential risks before using or sharing it.
- Apply responsible integration: Use a practical checklist to consider privacy, data handling, transparency, and human review when introducing AI into your work.
- Plan your next steps: Identify practical ways to continue building AI capability after the session and create a simple 30-day integration plan.
What you will take home
- A practical AI Tool Selection Matrix
- An AI Output and Evidence-Checking Checklist
- A Responsible AI Integration Checklist
- A practical 30-Day AI Integration Plan
- A clearer understanding of which AI tools and approaches fit your role
Good to know
Please bring your laptop so you can take part in the practical activities. The session uses safe practice scenarios rather than sensitive real-world data, so there is no need to bring confidential information. No previous AI experience is required.
