AHN "Animal Reproduction"

We are pleased to invite you to our final event of FY2026 titled "Animal Reproduction." This event will take place on April 14, 2026, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

This session will delve into issues surrounding animal reproduction and increasing reproductive efficiency. With both industry and academic representatives on the panel, multiple viewpoints will be shared. This will be followed by a networking reception from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Panelists Include:

• Felipe da Silva is Assistant Professor and Extension Beef Specialist in the Animal Science Department at NC State University. The long-term goal of the Silva Lab is to improve reproductive efficiency in cattle operations through the study of embryo-maternal communications during the early stages of gestation, thus decreasing early pregnancy loss, sparing natural resources, and improving the economic viability of the US cattle industry. His current research focuses on the effects of dietary fatty acids and choline on conceptus elongation and maternal recognition of pregnancy.
• Mitch Hockett is Director of Farmfit Technologies at STgenetics. Mitch has a demonstrated history providing leadership in diagnostics development startup marketing and selling to the veterinary/animal production & health space. Skilled in relationship building with all levels of customer management, understanding and representing "voice of customer", and communicating data and product benefits with KOLs, health professionals, customers and salesforce. Strong technical marketing professional.
• Ben Reading is Associate Professor of Applied Ecology and Interim Associate Director, NC Agricultural Research Service at NC State University. Ben is Faculty Liaison / Director of the NC State Pamlico Aquaculture Field Laboratory and also for the Lake Wheeler Field Laboratory Fish Barn. Ben’s research interests are in the area of Reproductive Physiology and Aquaculture of Fishes including egg quality, egg yolk formation, and genomic enablement.
