Rawhide Braiding Workshop with renowned braider Doug Groves:
If you’ve been to the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, you’ve surely heard of Great Basin buckaroo and braider Doug Groves, who makes rawhide reatas, quirts, reins, and bosals of great beauty and function. A 2009 recipient of the Nevada Governor’s Arts Award and 2017 recipient of the Nevada Heritage Award, Doug—with the assistance of Randy Roberts of Robert’s Rawhide—will teach you how to turn rawhide into fine gear. Choose between making a mini quirt (Thu), rawhide bracelet (Fri), or a horsehair tassel (Sat) in workshops from 8am-4pm ($85 class fee) or come watch them work ($45 audit only) in the Glass Room on the 2nd floor.
Leather Stamping Workshop with veteran Gathering instructor Mark Barcus:
Mark Barcus owns Cow Camp Saddlery in Cody, WY, and for over 20 years he’s been honing his art making saddles, chaps, and more. He’s received countless recognitions for his fine craftsmanship, and Ahern is proud to present a one-day workshop with Mark where he’ll introduce you to leatherworking and guide you through the process of making a pair of basket stamped leather coasters for you to take home. Settle down and get crafting 8am-4pm ($85 class fee) or come watch him work ($45 audit only) in the Glass Room on the 2nd floor.
