Join us on Thursday, May 9 at 5:30 PM - AHA! Night - in the San Francisco Gallery for an exhibition tour and discuss Reflections.
The photography collection at the New Bedford Whaling Museum is replete with views of and about the water, often with reflections on the water doubling images of the sun, sails, or wharves above it. In general, water asks humans to reflect: the ocean is a vast space with a visual blankness that lends itself to contemplative meditation. Herman Melville writes in Moby-Dick, "Yes," "veryone knows, meditation and water are wedded forever.”
"Mari"a "Dawn Wells, the New Bedford Whaling Museum Photography Collection Curatorial Fellow, will discuss how the theme of Reflections runs throughout their exhibition of the same name. This intimate tour will ask questions about how we take time to reflect, prompting attendees to engage in reflection themselves. Guests are invited to the third-floor San Francisco Gallery and out onto the Harbor View Deck for this event.
This program is one of two scheduled at the Whaling Museum on this AHA! Night. It will be followed by the Songs of the Sea concert in thmuseum'smuseum'smorialeater at 6:30 PM (registration required).
