The band's music is deeply rooted in Cuban jazz and features original compositions that blend jazz with Son-Salsa rhythms. Nacif, who was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, began playing percussion at a young age and has studied with renowned Cuban masters. Aguanko has gained national and international recognition for their music, including performances with prominent jazz musicians and multiple award nominations.
