AI Governance: From Policy to Proof
This presentation argues that the next major bottleneck in AI will not just be capability or compute, but governance, specifically the ability to control, observe, and evidence how AI systems behave inside real organisations. Using a gaming theme, the deck moves from the changing risk landscape, through shadow AI, regulation, and breach data, into a more technical argument: AI governance is becoming inseparable from engineering, continuous logging, runtime control, and operational proof.
Sachin Patel is an independent cybersecurity consultant and founder of Capstone Cyber, with more than 20 years of experience across retail, technology, telecommunications, manufacturing, and professional services. His work combines hands-on delivery with C-suite advisory, with a strong background in governance, risk, compliance, security leadership, and Second Line of Defense functions that provide independent oversight, challenge, and assurance.
His expertise spans established frameworks and regulatory domains including ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and DORA, with a practical focus on risk oversight, control design, third-party risk, resilience, and board-level reporting. Over the last two years, that experience has increasingly extended into AI governance, helping organisations understand AI-related risk, translate emerging regulatory requirements into practical controls, and build governance structures leadership can rely on.
Alexeis Garcia Perez - Professor of Digital Business & Society at Aston University and Academic Director of the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI.
Operationalising Trust and Accountability in the AI-centred Enterprise
While technical AI governance often focuses on policy frameworks, the true challenge for the modern enterprise lies in the socio-technical “last mile” of implementation. This session moves beyond theoretical loops to explore how organisations can bridge the gap between AI governance policies and verifiable enterprise value. Drawing on current initiatives from the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI, Professor Garcia Perez will discuss practical strategies for aligning human accountability with autonomous systems. Attendees will gain insights into fostering a culture of “trustworthy AI” that satisfies both regulatory rigour and industrial scalability.
Alexeis Garcia Perez is Professor of Digital Business & Society at Aston University and Academic Director of the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI. His research explores the socio-technical implications of AI-driven innovation and transformation in business and societal contexts, with a focus on governance and trust. He leads a unique partnership between Aston and global leader Capgemini, collaborating with international industry partners to translate research findings into practical, responsible solutions. He has co-authored 8 books and over 150 academic publications.
My experience of performing physical social engineering assignments
Tirath Rai - Director, Axis Pentest
Tirath has been taking things apart ever since he could hold a screwdriver. Sometimes he would take things apart with such enthusiasm they could never be put back together.
Tirath has been performing penetration testing since 1999. Since then, his career has seen him help private banks, government departments, and a banana ripening factory.
For the past few years, he has run Axis Pentest and built up a loyal client base featuring household names.
